The Indian Wine Consumer's Choice Awards 2016

All Things Nice was proud to present yet another round of the Indian Wine Consumer's Choice Awards 2016 in association with HT 48 hours as our presenting partner. Held on the 9th of January 2016 at Sofitel Mumbai, the 6th edition saw 21 wineries enrol with a staggering 136 labels registered to be judged! After compiling the scores of over 100 wine enthusiasts we are so glad to announce the winners of the IWCCA 2016 with Gold, Silver and Bronze certifications in this month's newsletter!

The aim of IWCCA is to give Indian consumers an opportunity to judge for themselves and on behalf of other consumers the best Indian wines available in the country. This annual accreditation, a brain child of our very own Sommelier Nikhil Agarwal, continues to open doors for consumers. The IWCCA acknowledges and celebrates new vintages and new wines launched in the market every year. The initiative alsoprovides valuable insights to wineries about what the burgeoning Indian market is inclined towards.

The modus operandi involves bringing together all domestically produced wines in the premium category to have them efficiently categorized into a systematic tasting and then tasted and evaluated by the actual wine co sumer.

This competition thereby unearths an independent list of India's finest wines judged by the very people who drink them.

At the IWCCA, consumers taste the wines blind, unaware of the brand name or price point thereby allowing an unbiased judgment based purely on the quality of the wine itself. The only information provided would be the grape varietal and the wine will be judged on the basis of its aroma, color and palate.

At the Top of Italy! Around Alba and Piedmonte.

At the north east of Italy lies a region called Piedmonte, which literally means ‘on the foot of the mountains’ so named because it is surrounded for the most part by the lofty Alps.

Wine writers and buyers from across the globe including yours truly had been invited to visit Alba and it’s surrounding regions recently. Full disclosure, I’ve been here before and it still never fails to excite me.

Home base was set up in Alba from where a short drive in any direction will take you to the hills where vineyards, the most famous planted with the Nebiolo grape variety are responsible for creating some of the world’s most astonishing wines in regions like Barolo and Barbaresco. These wine once the privilege of royalty is now the privilege of the well heeled and wanted by the most demanding connoisseurs. Read More
